Gr. blasfhmei^n to speak ill, to slander, to blaspheme, fr. bla°sfhmos evil speaking, perh, for blapsi°fhmos; bla°psis injury (fr. bla°ptein to injure) + fh°mh a saying, fr. fa°nai to say. Cf.
