Ar"chitect (r"ktkt), n.[L. architectus, architecton, Gr. chief artificer, master builder; pref. 'archi- (E. archi-) + workman, akin to art, skill, to produce: cf. F. architecte, It. architetto. See Technical.] 1. A person skilled in the art of building; one who understands architecture, or makes it his occupation to form plans and designs of buildings, and to superintend the artificers employed. 2.
