(), v. i.[imp. & p. p.Trotted; p. pr. & vb. n.Trotting.] [OE. trotten, OF. troter, F. trotter; probably of Teutonic origin, and akin to E. tread; cf. OHG. trottn to tread. See Tread.]
1. To proceed by a certain gait peculiar to quadrupeds; to ride or drive at a trot. See Trot, n.
2. Fig.: To run; to jog; to hurry.
He that rises late must trot all day, and will scarcely overtake his business at night.

Trot
v. t.To cause to move, as a horse or other animal, in the pace called a trot; to cause to run without galloping or cantering.
To trot out, to lead or bring out, as a horse, to show his paces; hence, to bring forward, as for exhibition. [Slang.]

Trot
n.[F. See Trot, v. i.]
1. The pace of a horse or other quadruped, more rapid than a walk, but of various degrees of swiftness, in which one fore foot and the hind foot of the opposite side are lifted at the same time. "The limbs move diagonally in pairs in the trot." Stillman (The Horse in Motion).
2. Fig.: A jogging pace, as of a person hurrying.
3. One who trots; a child; a woman.
