2YOU

2YOU FM is a community radio station broadcasting to Tamworth, NSW, Australia. The station has been broadcasting for over 25 years to the regional area. It is volunteer based, and is a member of the Community Broadcasting Association of Australia (CBAA). The station aims to be a local voice for the Tamworth area, offering access to any member of the community.
2YOUFM started in tiny studios out back of the old computer fiscal building in Marius street , although the studio, administration and library were actually in the rear off Dowe Ave in the old laundry rooms! The studio was lined with egg cartons for insulation, had two B&W turntables , a cassette player, a six slider panel and a microphone. From such humble beginnings 2 YOU FM had moved twice more, to 324A Peel street in 1984 and then to the present studio in 2002/2003 at 20 Darling street.

After over 30 years of operation and moving into the old Railway Gatekeeper’s House in East Tamworth, 2youFM faced serious financial issues created by increase running costs and lack of sponsor support. The new board faced some serious considerations on the stations future and implemented a previous conducted survey of what the market both thought and required of the station. A robust plan was put into place to correct the stations financial problems including implementing the research. The station adopted an aggressive new image and station format early 2014. 2youfm now became 88.9 FM.
The station broadcasts from Bald Hill with 1,000 watts ERP.
== Programming ==
The decision as to what programs are aired on 2YOU is made by the current programming committee.
Country music accounts for over 45% of the airtime on 2YOU FM. This provides an easy to access outlet for Australian Country music artists. 2YOU FM provides airplay for new country music artists, which may assist them in gaining an audience.
There is a mixed listening program format on-air, including Easy Listening, country music, rock with dance, metal and pop also featured. The oldies focus of the radio station reflects the average age of the presenters, volunteers and Board members.
There is classic/alternative rock show every Friday night from 7-11pm. Current Top 20 County Music Count Down is featured once per week, Friday 6-7pm. An all new overnight program every night has been implemented with assorted pop, dance and rock music.
A Drive time program is featured Monday through Friday from 4pm To 7pm.
A number of experienced broadcasters joined as volunteers and management commenced running the station as a community station with a strong business structure. Format changed from numerous music genres and “ad hoc programs” into a format of 60’s, 70, 80,s and the best in country. Regular shifts across the board were implemented, new image jingles, local daily news services jointly with Fairfax owned, The Northern Daily Leader, cross promotion with NBN Television, and major sponsors. The reaction from across the broadcast area was almost immediate and revenue increased from sponsor incomes following the stations aggressive marketing plus funds on hand allowed a complete overhaul of new digital production studios, to meet growing sponsor needs, upgrades of main studio, new formats and computer program schedules, utilising the Maximation broadcast system. An upgrade of the transmission tower, antenna array and a new and more powerful transmitter to allow that station to now broadcast clearly to its broadcast licensed area.
