A433 road
The A433 road is an A road and primary route in Gloucestershire. It starts at a junction with the A46 at Dunkirk north of junction 18 of the M4 and northeast of Chipping Sodbury. It then runs for to a junction with the A429 just west of Cirencester On its way to Cirencester the road passes the spectacular Westonbirt Arboretum, and runs through the villages of Westonbirt, Doughton, Tetbury and to the north of Kemble and RAF Kemble. The last follow the route of the Fosse Way. Along the way the road passes the Thames Head pub before heading over a crest and under the Golden Valley Line in a tunnel which has no pavement for pedestrians and no restrictions on the speed limit before rising over another crest. The road either side of the tunnel is in a cutting which is very steep with no pavement and is also not safe.
== History ==
When the route was first designated in 1922, it finished at a junction with the A429 on the Fosse Way just west of Kemble.〔(1922 road list )〕 When RAF Kemble was built, the A429 was diverted south of the airfield and part of the old route of the A429 became part of the A433.
In the 1930s or 1940s the route was extended from Cirencester to the A40 just west of Burford, on the former route of the B4425. In the 1980s the section between Cirencester and Burford was downgraded to become the B4425 again.〔(Sabre website: A433 )〕
