Adlam is an old English noble surname derived from the Anglo Saxon Adel helm or Eagle Shield, also translated as Noble Protector. The name was first introduced into England by the Normans after the Conquest of 1066, and is recorded as "Adelelmus" (without surname) in the 1086 Domesday Book for Kent.
