AfricAid AfricAid is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that supports girls’ education in Africa in order to provide young women with the opportunity to transform their own lives and the futures of their communities. It was founded in 2001 by Ashley Shuyler, who had traveled to Tanzania in 1996 and witnessed the country’s enormous educational needs while there. Since its inception, AfricAid has provided educational opportunities for thousands of students in nine schools across northern Tanzania. Specifically, AfricAid has provided hundreds of secondary school scholarships, built classrooms, initiated teacher training and vocational training programs, started a school lunch program, outfitted computer labs, and supplied textbooks, school supplies, and other classroom materials in Tanzanian schools. In 2010, AfricAid expanded its reach to establish the Kisa Project, a new girls' scholarship and leadership training initiative that supports Tanzanian girls as they become leaders in their communities and across the nation. Through this program, Kisa Scholars and their sponsors have the opportunity to form relationships using the (kisaproject.org ) social network.〔 AfricAid has offices in Denver, Colorado and Arusha, Tanzania. ==References==
