Afro-Honduran are Hondurans of African descent. They descended from African slaves imported by the Spanish, Garifunas and Creole peoples. The Creole people are originally from Jamaica and other Caribbean islands, and arrived in Honduras between the nineteenth and early twentieth century to work on the export of bananas and in construction. == Population == The National Assembly of Afro-Honduran Organizations and Communities put the population at 10%.〔(National Assembly of Afro-Honduran Organizations and Communities. Declaration retrieved 20-May-2011. )〕 According to the Human Development Report of the United Nations for Central America, in 2003 there would be 200,000 Garifuna (a community comprising descendents of Carib Indians and black Africans, who the British exported to Honduras from Saint Vincent after a rebellion) in Honduras, while in 2011 their number was estimated at 600,000 people (8% of the population).〔(La Prensa.
