==History==
Organized in 1963 as Pioneer-Standard Electronics, Inc., an Ohio corporation, Agilysys began operations as a distributor of electronic components and, in the 1990s, enterprise computer solutions. Exiting Pioneer-Standard Electronics, Inc. in fiscal 2003 with the sale of the Industrial Electronic Division, the company used the proceeds to reduce debt, fund growth of its enterprise solutions business, and acquire businesses specializing in solutions for the hospitality and retail industries. In 2003, the company changed its name to Agilysys, Inc.
In fiscal 2004, Agilysys acquired Kyrus Corporation and became a provider of IBM retail solutions and services in the supermarket, chain drug, general retail, and hospitality segments. Also in fiscal 2004, the acquisition of Inter-American Data, Inc. allowed the company to develop and provide technology solutions for property and inventory management in the casino and resort industries.
In calendar 2007, Agilysys divested KeyLink Systems and exited the enterprise computer distribution business. The company used proceeds from that sale to return cash to shareholders and fund acquisitions that broadened the company’s solutions and capabilities portfolios. Agilysys acquired InfoGenesis and Visual One Systems Corp. in calendar 2007, expanding its offerings to the hospitality industry through enterprise-class, point-of-sale (POS) and software solutions for a variety of applications in cruise, golf, spa, gaming, lodging, resort and catering. In fiscal 2008, Agilysys began reporting three primary operating segments: Hospitality Solutions Group (HSG), Retail Solutions Group (RSG) and Technology Solutions Group (TSG).
In fiscal 2012, the company sold its TSG segment and restructured their business model to focus on higher-margin opportunities in the hospitality and retail sectors. The company also reduced its real-estate footprint and lowered overhead costs by relocating corporate services from Solon, Ohio to Alpharetta, Georgia.
On June 10, 2013, Agilysys acquired the assets of Time Management Corporation (TMx), a privately owned Minneapolis-based provider of enterprise-wide software and service solutions, to streamline workforce management environments for hospitality operators. This included rebranding the solution to Agilysys Workforce Management System (WMx) and including it in the company’s solution portfolio.
In July 2013, the sale of the Retail Solutions Group (RSG) to an affiliate of Clearlake Capital Group, L.P. was completed. The business is now focused exclusively on its Hospitality Solutions Group.
