The famous abode of Akilandeswari is the temple of Thiruvanaikoil. Other important forms of Parvati are Meenakshi of Madurai, Kamakshi of Kanchipuram and Vishalakshi of Varanasi. The deity's name means: Supreme Goddess ("Eswari") - who rules ("Aand") - the Universe ("Akilam"). Hence, ''Akilandeswari''.
