Aldii ''Aldii'' were the semi-free in Germanic law. Employees of a patron, their position was intermediate between freedom and slavery, but ended up sometimes confused with the serfs. Deprived of political and military rights and related to the land they cultivated, could marry and be defended in court, were entitled to wergild (the amount is less than that of the free) and, within limits, to the property.〔Drew, Katherine Fischer. (''The Lombard laws'' ). University of Pennsylvania Press, 1973.〕 ==References== 〔
