== History ==

In 2007 European Centre Maribor (Slovenian: Evropsko sredisce Maribor - ESM) was founded by the European Administrative Academy. Its goal was to offer highest quality edication for fields that are needed by the market, by society, and by employers. In its first year students could study physical therapy and nursing.〔, Report on the development of new study programmes (GMS-202), Meeting of the Maribor city council, 5. 11. 2007.〕〔 TV Idea, 13. 10. 2010〕 Until that time, a public University of Ljubljana was the only Slovenian institution offering physical therapy studies for a very limited group of students, while at the same time patients and hospitals in Central Europe had a growing need for physical therapists. European Centre Maribor soon started using the acronym ECM and became part of the Alma Mater Europaea, an international university project by the European Academy of Sciences and Arts, based in Salzburg.
In 2011 students started studying management and social gerontology. Alma Mater Europaea started offering environmental studies and European studies in 2012 and archival science in 2013.
In March 2013 the first group of 50 students graduated. The president of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts prof. ddr. Felix Unger gave the opening speech.〔
