It is a derivative of the phenethylamine and amphetamine chemical classes.〔 The (+)-enantiomer is the active stereoisomer.〔 Amiflamine is unique among MAOIs in that it shows preference for inhibiting MAO-A in serotonergic relative to noradrenergic and dopaminergic neurons.
