==History and description==
Areapal was founded by Kaviraj Kaliamoorthy along with Siddharth Jeevagan, Prithviraj and a group of students and friends.〔 Areapal is a community project and is maintained by student volunteers.〔(【引用サイトリンク】 work= The Hindu Metro plus )〕〔(【引用サイトリンク】work=Deccan Chronicle )〕 It is privately funded by the promoters themselves.〔(【引用サイトリンク】work=Deccan Chronicle Bangalore )〕 The service was first open to colleges under Anna University and was then later expanded to other cities in India and other countries. The original version of the website was free of advertisement, but it currently features advertisements by Google AdSense. In July 2009, the site was updated to "Version 2.0." The new "version" featured a tweak in the internal search functionality, and it included a new feature called Rapo where various topics were discussed by the users and it also had an option for anonymous users to comment on the topic. On September 27, 2009 the site changed its main log-in page and the profile page and other minor elements.
