A key component of the ArtFacts.Net net service is the artist ranking. ArtFacts.Net considers an artists biography to be the most important factor in determining value within the contemporary art world. Therefore an ArtFacts.Net ranking is a based on exhibition data, not auction results.
The data in the ArtFacts network is sourced through the international art community (artists, galleries, museums and collectors). Based on this information, a dynamic points system is used to generate a ranking that indicates the reputation of the artist. The calculation factors in exhibition history, type of exhibition (e.g. group or solo), standing of the exhibitor and also the reputation of associated artists. By effectively visualising the artists career path, the rank serves as a tool to monitor the progress of hundreds of thousands of contemporary artists.
