Atengo
Atengo is a town and municipality of the region Sierra de Amula in Jalisco in central-western Mexico. The municipality covers an area of 412,42 km² and is 1,417 meters above sea level. As of 2005, the municipality had a total population of 4,918. The etymology of the name Atengo in the Nahuatl language signifies: “at the edge of the water”; and may also be interpreted as "place situated at the border of the river" or "at the bank". Atengo was once inhabited by an indigenous Toltec people who worshiped an idol known to them as "Pupuca".
