Awantipora

Awantipora or Awantipur ((ウルドゥー語:اونتپورا) is a town and a notified area committee in Pulwama district of the Indian state of Jammu & Kashmir. It is situated mid-way between Anantnag and Srinagar cities on National Highway 1A or NH 1A.
==Ancient temples==
Awantipora has a number of ancient Hindu temples built by King Awanti Varman (AD 855- 883) when he chose the site as his capital.
Awantipora is hub of Tractor industry in kashmir. Bhat called the sarpanchs are the main and largest society occupied the area and been the sarpanchs for more than 50 years. Abdul Gani Bhat is known as the last Sarpanch served the place for more than 107 years.
Avantishwarman temple located at Jawbrarin, Awantipora the centre of a courtyard surrounded by a colonnaded peristyle is dedicated to Siva on the banks of the River Jhelum (Vitasta). Less than a kilometre away is Avantiswamin temple dedicated to Vishnu. The Vaikunta Vishnu illustrated as frontispiece is said to be found in this temple. The two temples are quite similar structurally. The walls of the entrance are ornamented with sculptured reliefs both internally and externally.
Islamic University of Science and Technology is located at Awantipora covered under the mountains of Vasturwan.
AIMS hospitals is been proposed near by the IUST Awantipora with capacity of around 50 beds. This area is been chosen on the basis of free land and the centre of Kashmir.
The ruins of temples constructed by Lalitaditya, the Brahmin emperor of Kashmir, are also located in Awantipora.
The temples are located at and . They are protected and maintained by the Archaeological Survey of India.
