Azoi
Azoi is a company that makes medical devices for consumers. The company was founded in 2011 by Hamish Patel, Juned Munshi and Ami Karnik. It is based in San Francisco. A prototype of Azoi’s first product, Wello, was unveiled when the company launched on March 6, 2014. Wello is an iPhone cover with built-in circuitry and sensors that is able to track a variety of vital signs such as blood pressure, heart rate, blood oxygen level, body temperature and ECG. Lung function can also be measured using an add-on spirograph, which clips onto the side of the case using magnets.〔 The thin case connects to an iPhone via Bluetooth 4.0 in order to send the data it collects to a companion mobile app, which presents a user’s vital statistics as a set of numbers and graphs, charting daily, weekly and monthly readings.〔 The technology for Wello is contained in a removable card. On the day that Wello was announced, Azoi opened pre-orders in United States as well as Canada, China, India, Hong Kong, Singapore, the United Kingdom and across the EU. The product received a positive response by technology experts such as TechCrunch's Darrell Etherington, who noted that 'of all the health tracking gadgets out there, Wello looks to be the first that offers a more comprehensive look at your internal workings in a package that’s incredibly convenient and portable'.〔 A number of press articles, including those by The Daily Telegraph〔 and Daily Mail, compared Wello to the Tricorder - a device used by medical staff in Star Trek to remotely scan patients for a diagnosis. Azoi operates in the rapidly growing digital health market. Investment in digital health startups reached $1.97 billion in 2013, a 39 percent growth from 2012. == References ==
