Barabani (community development block)

Barabani (community development block) is an administrative division in Asansol subdivision of Bardhaman district in the Indian state of West Bengal. Barabani and Asansol (North) police stations serve this block. Headquarters of this block is at Domohani Bazar. Pangachhiya and Bhanowara are urban areas in this block. It is a suburb of Asansol.

Barabani community development block has an area of 150.50  km2.〔
Asansol is composed of undulating laterite soil. This area lies between two rivers – the Damodar and the Ajay. They flow almost parallel to each other in the region – the average distance between the two rivers is around 30 km. For ages the area was heavily forested and infested with plunderers and marauders. Nunia, a small stream about 40 km long has its origin near Adra village in the Salanpur area, flows through the Barabani area, past Asansol and joins the Damodar in the Raniganj area.〔Chattopadhyay, Akkori, pp 26-27〕
