Basavanagudi (ಬಸವನಗುಡಿ) (English Translation: Bull Temple) is a residential and commercial locality in the Indian city of Bangalore. The residential area is located in South Bangalore along the borders of Jayanagar. The name "Basavanagudi" refers to the Bull Temple that is located here. The temple has a monolith statue of the Nandi Bull. Basava in Kannada, the local language, means Bull and Gudi means temple. Hence, the name Basavanagudi. Basavanagudi is one of the oldest areas of Bangalore city. The main commercial street of Basavanagudi is DVG Road〔http://www.dvgroad.com/〕 which is home to numerous retail businesses several of them dating back to the 1970s and 80's.
