Males constitute 52% of the population and females 48%. Basmath has an average literacy rate of 65%, higher than the national average of 59.5%; with 58% of the males and 42% of females literate. 16% of the population is under 6 years of age. There are 3 degree colleges – Bahirji Smarak Mahavidylaya Vasmath and Yoganand Mahavidylaya, and Raosaheb Patange arts college. Also along with many near by site seeings. Schools like Sarswati Vidya Niketan, Mahatma Gandhi Vidhyalaya are welknown in the town.There is small village named Shivpuri at 3–4 km distance from Basmath Bus Station which is famous for its 100+ years old Balaji Temple Basmath is the only tehsil in Hingoli district which is well irrigated and having well agricultural land. Basmath has a cosmopolitan culture as five major communities (Hindu, Marwadi, Muslim, Buddhist, Sikh and Jain) have resident in the city, it reflects the real culture of the India where people live together with great happiness though they are from different culture, state, language, community. There are many industries in the city specially Purna Global Textile Industry, this industry is making inner wears for big companies like Rupa, VIP, etc. And Gajanana Warehousing, Gajanana Food Processing which are known for its quality and performance. This Industry is also having its own JUST FEEL Brand of inner wears. The area of the Basmath city is fully surrounded by green agricultural opportunity. Due to non availability of manforce many things are not able to grow. There are many peoples who are ready to work as Joint venture if good things knock the door. Hingoli district is classified as a "No Industry Zone" and hence a culture of industrialisation has not developed nor the government of Maharashtra has taken any interest to develop the region . Although the culture is not developed yet but i proud to say that we are on very good market potantials to fight against anything which is large economy market.
