It lies north-north-west of Aylsham and south-south-west of Cromer.〔() ''Kelly's Directory for Cambridgeshire, Norfolk & Suffolk'', 1883, p. 245〕 It forms part of the civil parish of Sustead. St. Mary's Church (previously known as St. Andrew's Church) is a round-tower church that was restored in 1869. The current Bessingham Manor House was built in 1870 for the lord of the manor, Daniel Spurrell, It stood empty and derelict for many years and was eventually scheduled for demolition.
