''Bhaun'' is a town in Chakwal District in the Punjab province of Pakistan 12 kilometres away from the district capital Chakwal.〔(Bhaun rail service to be resumed – Dawn Pakistan )〕 In 2007 Pakistan Railways announced the resumption of the Bhaun to Chakwal service.〔 However, no progress has been made to this effect as of February 2009. The importance of resumption of this service and extending it to salt range in Kallar Kahar area will bring significant commercial advantages for the region as the cement factories in the area can use rail for their merchandise. The population in 2006 was estimated to be over 35,000. ==History== The Delhi Sultanate and later Mughal Empire ruled the region. The Multan region became predominantly Muslim due to missionary Sufi saints whose dargahs dot the landscape of Punjab region. After the decline of the Mughal Empire, the Sikh invaded and occupied Dera Ghazi Khan District. During the period of British rule, Dera Ghazi Khan district increased in population. thumb thumb The predominantly Muslim population supported Muslim League and Pakistan Movement.
