Biswas (pronounced in Bengali as "bish-shash") is a common surname in West Bengal, Bihar among Indian Hindus, mostly Bengalis. In Bengali, ''Biswas'' means trustworthy. Some Christians and Muslims of Bangladesh have the surname of Biswas, originating during a later period.
