The ethnicity was 97.7% white, 1% mixed race, 0.8% Asian, 0.5% black and 0% other. The place of birth of residents was 95.6% United Kingdom, 0.5% Republic of Ireland, 1.2% other Western European countries, and 2.7% elsewhere. The industry of employment of residents was 18.7% retail, 17.4% manufacturing, 9% construction, 11.4% real estate, 11.7% health and social work, 6.1% education, 6.6% transport and communications, 5.5% public administration, 5.2% hotels and restaurants, 3.1% finance, 1.1% agriculture and 4.2% other. Compared with national figures, the ward had a relatively high proportion of workers in construction, and a relatively low proportion in agriculture, education and finance.
