CIIO-FM
CIIO-FM was a Canadian radio station, licensed to broadcast tourist information at 96.1 FM in Ottawa, Ontario, known as ''Information Radio'' (Instant Information Services). The station previously operated at 97.5 FM along with another station in French at 101.9 in Ottawa with the callsign CIIF-FM.
The station originally began broadcasting at 104.7 FM in 2006,〔(CRTC Decision 2005-601 )〕 however, the station moved to 99.7 FM in 2007, to make room for CJRC AM 1150 in Gatineau, Quebec (now CKOF-FM) to relocate to 104.7 FM.〔(CRTC Decision 2007-75 )〕
On October 4, 2007 the CRTC received applications for new radio stations in Ottawa to operate at 99.7 MHz. Three applicants have proposed the 99.7 MHz frequency. However, CIIO-FM filed plans to increase their effective radiated power, from 25 watts to 427 watts, in effect changing its class from an unprotected low-power service to a protected Class A service; this application was denied on August 26, 2008.〔(Broadcasting Decision CRTC 2008-222 )〕 On the same date, a new radio station owned by Astral Media was authorized to broadcast at 99.7 FM in Ottawa, forcing CIIO to relocate to a new frequency; that new station, CJOT-FM, signed on on May 27, 2010.
In May 2010 the CRTC authorized CIIO to move to 97.5 MHz.〔(Radio-Info: "Canadian Radio News for May 2010", June 2, 2010. )〕
As of December 2010, the station CIIO-FM is listed as 96.1 MHz, while VF2516 is listed at 97.5 MHz in Ottawa which is now known as CIIF-FM.〔(Radio-Info: "Canadian Radio News for December 2010", January 2, 2011. )〕〔(Broadcasting Part 1 Applications Open for Comment ) 2011-1188-0〕〔()〕
On December 7, 2011, Jack McGaw and Information Radio applied to cancel the licence of CIIF-FM 97.5 and relocate CIIO-FM to that frequency from 99.7. CIIO-FM only aired for a couple of months on 97.5 and has been silent since 2011. All mention of the station has been removed from the company website.〔(Broadcasting Part 1 Applications Open for Comment )〕〔(2011-1551-9 )〕
