CJGV-FM

CJGV-FM is a radio station in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Owned by Corus Entertainment, the station broadcasts an alternative leaning hot adult contemporary format branded as 991 Fresh Radio. The station broadcasts from 1440 Jack Blick Avenue in Polo Park, Winnipeg, Manitoba with sister stations CJOB and CJKR-FM.〔(Radio Station History - CJGV-FM, Winnipeg. ) Retrieved 12 August 2011.〕
CJGV-FM primarily competes with 102.3 KiSS FM.
==History==
The station signed on in early 2003 on 99.1 FM,〔( Broadcasting Decision CRTC 2002-224 )〕 which was the former home in Winnipeg of CKO for a short period in 1988 and 1989. Originally CJZZ-FM was broadcast from the ''Starbuck Communications Tower'', but Canwest found this caused multipath to occur, so they applied to the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) to broadcast from a new transmitter that Rogers was putting up,〔(【引用サイトリンク】 publisher = Government of Canada - CRTC )〕 and to decrease the EIRP from 100,000 to 63,700 watts. At this time the station was branded as 99.1 Cool FM which was branded after CanWest's CoolTV.
In September 2006, Corus Entertainment, already owner of Winnipeg's CJOB and CJKR-FM, announced it would buy CJZZ-FM and Kitchener, Ontario's CKBT-FM, from CanWest, subject to CRTC approval. The transaction was approved by the CRTC on July 6, 2007. Corus Entertainment officially took ownership of CJZZ on July 29, 2007.
On January 9, 2007, CJZZ added Dolby Pro Logic noise reduction to its signal.
On November 5, 2007, the station went on the air for the first time as the newly rebranded Groove FM, as Canwest owned the name "Cool" and was still being used for the now defunct CoolTV. Its call letters were also changed, with the station now known as CJGV-FM.
In April 2010, Corus Radio Winnipeg announced the future relocation of its radio broadcast facility to 1440 Rapelje Avenue (since renamed ''Jack Blick Avenue''), as part of a lease agreement between Corus Entertainment and Cadillac Fairview. The relocation to Polo Park was originally slated for January 2011. CJOB 680, CJGV-FM and CJKR-FM would become the anchor tenants. Corus Radio Winnipeg planned to occupy the second floor of the three story building, upsizing its radio, production and business operations to . At the time, general manager Garth Buchko said the stations had outgrown their 930 Portage Avenue facility. With the move, Corus Radio Winnipeg would also upgrade to state-of-the-art, fully digital on-air systems. At the end of February 2011, Groove FM completed the move to its new location at 1440 Jack Blick Avenue.〔
In August 2011, CJGV-FM filed an application with the CRTC to remove the smooth jazz titles from its playlist and relaunch as an adult contemporary station, citing significant financial losses in recent years.〔(Application by Corus Premium Television Ltd. ). Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission, 3 August 2011. Retrieved 12 August 2011.〕 It effectively signaled the end of the smooth jazz format on Anglophone Canadian radio, as CJGV had become the only English-language smooth jazz-based station left in Canada. On November 30, 2011, the CRTC approved CJGV-FM's application.〔(Broadcasting Decision CRTC 2011-739, November 30, 2011. )〕
On December 1, 2011, the station began playing all-Christmas music for the holiday season, and announced plans to flip to adult contemporary on January 1, 2012, CJGV flipped to a hot adult contemporary format branded as simply 99.1 FM, before ultimately adopting Corus's Fresh FM brand on February 14, 2012. According to Corus, the station will be playing "a wide variety of today’s pop and rock hits, mixed with songs from the 80s and 90s".〔http://www.chrisd.ca/blog/50738/991-fresh-fm-corus-entertainment-radio-winnipeg/〕
On February 13, 2015, CJGV-FM flipped to modern adult contemporary, and re-branded as ''99.1 Fresh Radio'' as part of a national relaunch of the Fresh FM brand. The station's playlist retains an AC lean, but with an increased amount of alternative as well.〔(【引用サイトリンク】url=http://radioinsight.com/blog/headlines/91983/clear-fm-winnipeg-gets-kissed/ )
