Owned by Eternacom Inc., the station was licensed by the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission in 2000〔(CRTC Decision 2000-102 ), New low-power FM radio programming undertaking, ''CRTC'', April 17, 2000〕 and launched in 2001. The station was branded as STIR "Sudbury Tourism and Information Radio". The station was closed down in 2005 due to lack of funding and technical issues after it struggled to maintain sufficient advertising to maintain the operation. A year later, an article was published in the ''Sudbury Star'' about the defunct station. 〔Tourism radio just 'dead air', ''Sudbury Star'', August 11th, 2006〕 On June 5, 2006, the CRTC renewed CKBB-FM's licence from September 1, 2006 to August 31, 2013, 〔(CRTC Decision 2006-213 ), CKBB-FM Sudbury - Licence renewal, ''CRTC'', June 5, 2006〕 As to date, CKBB-FM remains off the air, although sister station CJTK-FM is still broadcasting.
