COSCUP
Conference for Open Source Coders, Users and Promoters (:zh:開源人年會, or COSCUP),is an annual conference held by Taiwanese Open source community participants since 2006. It's a major force of Free software movement advocacy in Taiwan. The event is often held in two days, with talks, sponsor and communities booths, and Birds of a feather (computing). Excepts for international speakers, many Taiwanese local Open Source contributors often give their talks here. The lightweight Desktop Environment LXDE, is announced in COSCUP 2006. The chief organizer, other staffs, and speakers are all Volunteer. COSCUP's aim is to provide a platform to connect Open Source coders, users, and promoters, and promote FLOSS with the annual conference. The conference is free to attend because of the enthusiastic sponsors and donators. Since the conference venue is limited, the ticket is often sold out immediately after the online registration has started. == History == COSCUP's predecessor is the community talks in International Conference on Open Source (Chinese: :zh:國際開放源碼研討會, ICOS). In 2006, ICOS's topics no longer fit some attendee's demand, Taiwanese Open source community participators initiated COSCUP, as a "festival" for Taiwanese open source communities. The first event, COSCUP 2006 was held in National Taiwan University Sports Center, and was a great success with almost 200 attendees. The attendees' number grew from 200 to almost 2000 in COSCUP 2014. In 2014,COSCUP moved to Taipei International Convention Center, with an attendee number of 1,500 people, and 110 talks was held. Later in 2014, COSCUP was back to Academia Sinica Humanities and Social Sciences Building, but the conference also extends to the neighboring Academia Sinica Academic Activities Center, is the first time COSCUP is held in two venues at the simultaneously.
