CUCEI
The University Center of Exact Sciences and Engineering (CUCEI) is located on the campus of Universidad de Guadalajara, México, and focuses on the fields of engineering, physical sciences, chemistry and mathematics. It has one of the largest student populations within the university at around 10,000. ==History== The Science Institute of the State of Jalisco was inaugurated in February 1827 in the city of Guadalajara, and offered majors in medical science and surgery, jurisprudence, physical sciences and mathematics. When owned by the conservative party lawyer José Antonio Romero closed the Institute at the same time as he reopened the university by an official decree on September 1, 1834. The lawyer Joaquín Angulo, as state governor, decided in 1847 that the simultaneous existence of both the Institute and the University should be under a liberal teaching basis. In 1853 it was decreed that the Institute would become part of the University. The university later became the University of Guadalajara and the Science Institute was renamed as the University's Technology Institute. The University's Technology Institute became the Centro Universitario de Ciencias Exactas e Ingenierías (University's Campus for Exact Sciences and Engineering), and known by its Spanish acronym CUCEI, on 2 May 1994 with the founding of the University's Network.
