His nephew, David, later Baron Hume, the noted Scottish jurist was baptised 1757 at Chirnside.〔John W. Cairns, "Hume, David (bap. 1757, d. 1838)", ''Oxford Dictionary of National Biography'', Oxford University Press, 2004; online edition, May 2007, accessed 22 Oct 2011.〕 Chirnside is also the last resting place of Jim Clark, former world champion Formula One racing-car driver. Close to the churchyard in which Clark is buried, there is a memorial plaque and clock at the side of the main road through the village. A small museum, which is known as (The Jim Clark Room ), can be found in Duns.
