Chitterkote

Chitterkote is a small village in tehsil Karnah and district Kupwara. The village's population exceeds 1,200, with more than 129 houses. The village has a very healthy sex ratio of 997:1000, which means villagers do not follow discrimination of a girl from a boy. Although the population of the village increases day by day because the people of nearby villages are attracted towards the village to set up their business in the village, the village is slowly growing into a small town with all available facilities for living a healthy lifestyle. Some important infrastructures in the village are a 30-bed hospital, a branch of Jammu and Kashmir bank etc. Generally villagers are economically poor and also not well educated. Some people are serving in defence forces as soldiers and some are teachers in local schools.
==Description==
The village covers about 2 km2, and is located 5 km from the line of control between India and Pakistan.
Chitterkote is located in Karnah Valley between Chamkote and Gundi Syedian village just below Danna Mountain. It is in a remote area and is isolated from Jammu and Kashmir for two months each winter due to avalanches at the Sadhna Pass and Shams Bri mountain ranges.
Its three schools include a Government Middle School for boys, Government Middle School for girls and an Army Goodwill School. There is also another privately run school known as Islamic School Chitterkote. Despite its location in a backward area, this village has a 30-bed hospital constructed during 1999–2003. The facility had yet to open ten years later.
This village has a J&K Bank branch and a government depot of rice.
There are 50 shops in the village, and 78 houses existed until the 2005 Kashmir earthquake, which killed three inhabitants. As of 2012 there were 130 housing structures.
The literacy rate of the village is below the national rate.
