It is a typical medieval village along the Aso river, founded in the 5th or 6th century by families of Ascoli to escape barbaric incursions. Comunanza borders the following municipalities: Amandola, Force, Montefalcone Appennino, Montefortino, Montegallo, Montemonaco, Palmiano, Roccafluvione.
