Francisco José Rodrigues da Costa, OIH, (born 1 December 1974), known as Costinha ((:kɔʃˈtiɲɐ)), is a Portuguese retired footballer who played as a defensive midfielder. After his playing career ended, he became a coach.
Best known for his tackling and positioning,〔(Costinha carrying the fight ); UEFA.com, 23 March 2004〕 he played professionally in five different countries – reaching the first division of his own at nearly 27 – and was a Portuguese international. He helped Porto win the 2004 Champions League, conquering a total of eight trophies with that club.
Costinha gained more than 50 caps with Portugal, appearing with the national team in one World Cup and two European Championships, being part of the squad that reached the final in Euro 2004.
