Electroceuticals

Electroceuticals is a recently coined term that broadly encompasses all bioelectronic medicine that employs electrical stimulation to affect and modify functions of the body. Clinical neural implants such as cochlear implants to restore hearing, retinal implants to restore sight, spinal cord stimulators for pain relief or cardiac pacemakers and implantable defibrillators are conventional examples of electroceuticals. More recent varieties of electroceuticals include the electrical stimulation of the vagus nerve to modulate the immune system in order to provide relief from rheumatoid arthritis and prevent epileptic seizures.
== History ==
The term was coined by British drug giant GlaxoSmithKline.〔
