''Elliptocephala'' is an extinct genus from a well-known class of fossil marine arthropods, the trilobites. It lived from the later part of the Tommotian (upper ''Schmidtiellus mickwitzi''-zone) to the upper Botomian (early middle ''Olenellus''-zone). ''Elliptocephala'' can easily be confused with ''Ellipsocephalus'', a trilobite genus of the Ptychopariida order. == Etymology == ''Elliptocephala'' is the contraction of ellipse (from Greek ἔλλειψις elleipsis, "falling short") and cephalus (Greek: κέφαλος kephalos, "head") for the rounded headshield that is wider than long. * ''E. asaphoides'' is from the Latin asaphus,〔(【引用サイトリンク】title= Look up: Asaphus )〕 meaning "indistinct" or "uncertain", and an unrelated trilobite genus, and -oid "resembling", has been named for its likeness to it. * ''E. bicensis'' is called after the village of Le Bic, belonging to the city of Rimouski, Quebec, where this species is found. * ''E. laxocules'' from the Latin languere, "to be weak", and ocules, "eyes". * ''E. praenuntius'' from the Latin for "forerunner", indicating the presumed early occurrence of this species. * ''E. walcotti'' was named in honor of Charles Doolittle Walcott, a renowened early paleontologist, that described many trilobite species.〔 抄文引用元・出典: フリー百科事典『 ウィキペディア(Wikipedia)』 ■ウィキペディアで「Elliptocephala」の詳細全文を読む スポンサード リンク
