Escalls
Escalls is a hamlet near Sennen on the Penwith peninsula in west Cornwall, England, United Kingdom.〔Ordnance Survey ''One-inch Map of Great Britain; Land's End, sheet 189''. 1961〕 In the Middle Ages Escalls was owned by the Penros family. The best-known member of the family, John Penros (died 1411), was Lord Chief Justice of Ireland in 1385-6,〔Ball, F. Elrington ''The Judges in Ireland 1221-1921'' London John Murray 1926〕 despite being a notorious felon. His litany of crimes ultimately led to his downfall, although the family remained at Escalls. 〔''The History of Parliament- the House of Commons 1386-1411'' J.S. Roskell, L. Clark, C.
