The Eurovision Song Contest 2016 will be the 61st edition of the annual Eurovision Song Contest. It will take place in the Ericsson Globe, located in Stockholm, Sweden, following the country's victory at the 2015 edition with Måns Zelmerlöw performing "Heroes". This will be the third time the city hosts the event, after holding the 1975 and the 2000 editions, with the last also being hosted at the Ericsson Globe. The contest is scheduled to consist of two semi-finals and a final, with official dates for the semi finals being 10 and 12 May, and for the final, 14 May 2016. Forty-three countries will participate in the contest, with Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia and Ukraine returning, whilst Portugal have withdrawn.

The event will take place in Stockholm, Sweden, with the venue being the Ericsson Globe, after Sweden won the right to host this edition of the Eurovision Song Contest for winning its previous 2015 edition with the song "Heroes" performed by Måns Zelmerlöw. The Ericsson Globe has a capacity of approximately 16,000 attendees〔(【引用サイトリンク】title=Stockholm to host 2016 Eurovision Song Contest )〕 and this will be its second hosting of the contest as the arena was also used for the 2000 edition.
Sveriges Television (SVT) announced on 24 May, a day after the 2015 edition's final, that their first choice as host arena for the Eurovision was the Tele2 Arena in Stockholm. However, other cities and arenas were still able to apply; those making a bid had approximately three weeks to submit their offer to SVT. An announcement from the broadcaster regarding the venue was expected by mid summer〔 and on 8 July 2015 the Ericsson Globe was announced as the host venue.
