In more modern history Farncombe has appeared in Domesday Book of 1086 as ''Fernecome''. It was held by the Bishop of Bayeux. Its domesday assets were: 2 ploughs, of meadow, woodland worth 3 hogs. It rendered £1 4s 0d.〔(Surrey Domesday Book )〕 The village lies on the River Wey and canal boats can be hired here taking travelers up to Guildford and beyond. Few older buildings survive as evidence of its long history; among the oldest is a row of almshouses, built in 1622.〔()〕 Farncombe is within the census area ''Godalming Charterhouse'' which has a population of 5,053.〔(Census data )〕 One of the older buildings in Farncombe is (Farncombe Infants School ) situated on Grays Road near Farncombe railway station. It was built by subscription in 1905 and was originally a boys school.
