Fister

Fister is a small village near Stavanger in the Hjelmeland municipality on the south-western Norwegian coast. Fister has the highest average temperature in Norway. It is visited by many tourists each year. There are no big tourist attractions except for the beautiful nature, fishing in the fjords, lots of peace and quiet, and until its recent death a parrot in a tree.〔''Vårt Land'' September 10, 2008, Oslo, Norway, page 32.〕
Fister used to be a municipality of its own, created when Hjelmeland og Fister was split on July 1, 1884. Fister had 832 inhabitants by the time of creation.
On January 1, 1965 the majority of Fister with 467 inhabitants became a part of Hjelmeland municipality. Fisterøyene, an island group with 246 inhabitants, were moved to the municipality of Finnøy.
Fister church was built in 1867. The architect, Hans Linstow (1787-1851) designed several churches in Norway, in addition to the Royal Palace, Oslo.
