Frisia or Friesland is a coastal region along the southeastern corner of the North Sea in what today is mostly a large part of the Netherlands, including modern Friesland, and smaller parts of Germany. Frisia is the traditional homeland of the Frisians, a Germanic people who speak Frisian, a language group closely related to the English language. ==Names== The names for Frisia in the local languages are: * West Frisian: ''Fryslân'' * North Frisian: ''Fraschlönj'', ''Freesklöön'', ''Freeskluin'', ''Fresklun'', and ''Friislön’'' :(Halunder is the local variation of North Frisian spoken on the island of Heligoland.
