GIBSS
Green India Building Systems and Services (styled as GIBSS) is an India-based clean technology company that specializes in geothermal air-conditioning technologies for cooling dominated tropical regions such as India. Headquartered in Mumbai, the company has offices in Delhi, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Singapore.
==History==
GIBSS was founded by Arun Shenoy and Mandar Kaprekar in 2009. Shenoy graduated from Oklahoma State University where he earned a Masters Degree in mechanical engineering with a specialization in building indoor environmental systems and geothermal heating/cooling systems. He worked for Climatemaster and then Trane,, world's largest manufacturer of large commercial air-conditioning systems, during which time he explored the idea of using geothermal technology to make substantial economic and environmental impact in buildings across India.〔 After 7 years in the US, Shenoy returned to India in 2008 to start a venture in the geothermal space in India. Shenoy met Kaprekar after returning to India to work for Trane. Kaprekar is an alumnus of the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore and had 15 years experience in high performance building systems and air conditioning industry and had moved from the middle east to start a venture in the energy efficiency and building systems space.〔 Shenoy is an alumnus of the Indian School of Business (ISB), Hyderabad.
The company officially launched in April 2010 after a field study on market opportunity and guidance from the Wadhwani Centre for Entrepreneurial Development at the Indian School of Business.〔 Initial funding for GIBSS came from the founders who bootstrapped for 3 years and funded research and product development.〔 During the early stages, the company conducted geothermal studies and developed geothermal strategies for 22 cities across India.〔 Outside funding for GIBSS came from SRI Capital and Hyderabad Angels. It added Series A funding from Zurich based responsAbility Investment and clean technology focused fund Infuse Ventures in August 2015. The undisclosed amount of financing was said to be used for scaling operations. The Series A funding was in addition to an undisclosed amount received from Infuse in April 2015.〔
