Gahmar is a village in India, located near the Ganges river in the Ghazipur district in the state of Uttar Pradesh. The village is 38 km from Ghazipur. Shree Kushum Dev Rao founded the village on Sakara dih in 1530 AD.
Gahmar has a railway station connected to Patna and Mughalsarai Junction. The village has 2 post offices, one water tank and one Panchayat Bhawan, along with branches of the State Bank of India the Union Bank of India, with ATM facility. The population of the village is approximately 25,994.〔Census of India, 2011〕 The village is dominated by Brahman & Sikarwar, a part of parashar Suryavanshi Rajpoot (Sikar-Rajasthan), Rajputs. The river Ganges runs on its northern side and the railway station is on the southern side. On the east side is a canal which is connected with Bara and Harkarnpur village. On the western side is the Holy Shrine of Maa Kamakhya Devi, locally called Kamachcha Mai. In Karahiya, a large number of people are involved in army and defence services, which is why it is called the 'Village of Soldiers'. The army provides the facility of a mobile CSD Canteen for family members of serving personnel. Every home has at least one family member in the army, air force or navy.
