It belongs to the Sarola subgroup of the Brahmin caste of this region. In an earlier period Gairolas were believed to be astrologers and Raj-Purohits who used to advise the Kings. Gairola Brahmins are basically Garhwalis and find their roots in Gairoli village near Karnaprayag with isth devi as maa Uma devi. Maa Uma (Umadevi Shakti Sthal) is considered as one of the 108 shakti peethas as per Srimad Devi Bhagwad. Their veda is Yajur Veda. Descent is from Kashyapa in the majority of cases. With passage of time myriad of this clan /ppl went in search of livelihood and settled in different parts of India, Uttarakhand and even in U.S.A, Europe and other parts of the Globe.
