Then, until 1944 as Yermolov, after the Russian general Aleksey Petrovich Yermolov. From 1944 until 1991, settlement was known as Gantiadi ((グルジア語:განთიადი), (ロシア語:Гантиади)), from the Georgian word for ''Dawn''.
