Ghafurov

Ghafurov (also Gafurov, (タジク語:Ғафуров); (ペルシア語:غفورف); (ロシア語:Гафуров)) is a town in Ghafurov district, Sughd Province, Tajikistan. It has a population of 18100 (2014 estimate),〔(''Population of the Republic of Tajikistan as of 1 January 2014, p.19'', State Committee of Statistics ''TajStat'' )〕 down from 18,900 in the 1989 census.〔(World Gazetteer, Tajikistan )〕 The town was created in 1965, and until 1978 had the name Sovetabad ((ロシア語:Советабад)). In that year it was renamed in honor of Bobojon Ghafurovich Ghafurov,〔(Russian Dictionary-Search engine mirslovarej.com )〕 commemorating his term of office as the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Tajikistan from 1946 to 1956.
