Giessenburg is a town in the Dutch province of South Holland. It is a part of the municipality of Giessenlanden, and lies about 6 km west of Gorinchem. Giessenburg was a separate municipality between 1957 and 1986. It was created in a merger of the municipalitie Giessen-Nieuwkerk and Peursum.〔Ad van der Meer and Onno Boonstra, "Repertorium van Nederlandse gemeenten", KNAW, 2006. ()〕 In 2001, the town of Giessenburg had 2514 inhabitants.
