At the 2006 census, its population was 47,849, in 14,263 families. Golpayegan is located northwest of Isfahan and southeast of Arak, situated at an altitude of 1,830 m. Its temperature fluctuates between +37° and -10° Celsius. Its average annual rainfall is 300 mm 〔(Wezārat-e defāʿ, pp. 218-19; Wezārat-e rāh wa tarābari, pp. 119-20).〕 == Golpayegan, land of tulips. == Historically, the name of the town has been recorded as Vartpadegān,〔(Eṣṭaḵri, p. 198, n. c);〕(ورت پاتگان) Jorfadeghan,〔Moqaddasi, p. 402;〕 (جرفادقان) Darbayagan, Kuhpayegan,〔(Abu’l-Fedā, Taqwim, p. 419;〕(کوه پایگان) and Golbādagān.〔(Nozhat al-qolub, ed.
