Gräfenroda is a municipality in Thuringia in the northeast of the Thüringer Wald forest, Ilm-Kreis district, Germany. Gräfenroda is the seat of the ''Verwaltungsgemeinschaft'' Oberes Geratal. ==History== Gräfenroda was founded in 1290. At the end of the 19th century Gräfenroda was the birthplace of the Garden gnome ((ドイツ語:Gartenzwerg)). The municipality has a museum of the history of garden gnomes. In the year 1705 the composer Johann Peter Kellner was born in Gräfenroda. He was a student of Johann Sebastian Bach. Within the German Empire (1871-1918), Gräfenroda was part of the Duchy of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha.
