Guerbet is a research-centered pharmaceutical company based in France that is one of the major players in the contrast agents business. The X-ray contrast properties of Lipiodol were discovered in 1918. On July 27, 2015, Guerbet announced that it has entered into a definitive agreement under which it will acquire Mallinckrodt’s contrast media and delivery systems business ("CMDS").
